Chief Compliance Officer
Direct Hire
Salary is DOE, target is ~210-275k and ~12%+ bonus

The main responsibility of the Chief Compliance Officer is to focus on mechanisms and processes to implement policies of the bank and ensure the institution complies with all of the relevant laws and regulations. The Chief Compliance Officer role is part of the Risk and Compliance Group, comprised of the Bank’s Chief Risk Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, Chief AML Officer, and Chief Compliance Officer. Although each role has direct responsibility for the areas under their purview, a large part of the position is coordination, communication, and collaboration between the four roles to ensure effective risk and compliance governance. Performance of the individual functions will, in part, be evaluated by the peer roles.

The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), is responsible for protecting the bank, its affiliates, and customers from any damage that might result from the failure to comply with regulatory obligations and assists Executive Management in monitoring and mitigating compliance risks in line with the risk tolerance of the Bank.

• Experience as a CCO
• Currently working in a similar role for a Commercial Bank in the ~$10-50B asset size range
• Strong Business Banking experience
• Experience managing a team

• Experience transitioning a smaller bank to a larger bank (past $10B)
• Experience Managing the regulatory compliance exam
• Experience with SOX / Monitoring and controls testing
• Experience with FX

• Develops and administers Company’s whistle-blower policy and program
• Develops and administers ongoing monitoring program of activities and operations with regard to regulatory, legal, and policy compliance
• Creates strong internal controls and monitors compliance with them (including SOX controls)
• Assists executive management and the board with drafting compliance reports for inclusion in the annual report, as required
• Develops and maintains the library of bank policies and a program for monitoring compliance with the same, including an exception reporting process
• Develops and maintains compliance programs for the bank, consistent with applicable laws and regulations
• Assesses the Bank’s compliance culture and designs training programs to address gaps
• Drafts and revises company policies
• Proactively reviews processes, practices, and documents to identify weaknesses
• Evaluates business activities (e.g. investments) to assess compliance risk
• Sets plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation
• Educates and trains employees on regulations and industry practices
• Addresses employee concerns or questions on legal compliance
• Keeps abreast of internal standards and business goals
• Ensures compliance with applicable domestic laws and regulations
• Ensures compliance with the bank’s internal policies, including knowledge of them and documenting compliance
• Responds to regulatory findings, deficiencies and violations, in conjunction with Internal Audit
• Monitors resolution of consumer complaints
• Oversees fraud investigations involving customer accounts and recovery of funds, coordinating investigations with appropriate internal resources
• Conducts internal investigations of employee activities where there are violations of bank policy or regulation
• Develops and maintains effective documented compliance programs
• Develops and oversees records retention program, with appropriate attention to privacy safeguards
• Reviews new products and services (and marketing materials) to ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and regulatory policies
• Ensures adequacy and effectiveness of the compliance training program
• Maintains a comprehensive list of related parties, as required by law
• Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with the Chief Information Security Officer to leverage technology for compliance monitoring and initiatives and for managing records
• Monitors pending regulatory changes and preparing and ensuring compliance with them
• Ensures dissemination of updates to regulations and compliance procedures to business units, executive management, and the Board
• Ensures the documented code of ethics of periodically disseminated to and acknowledged by employees
• Together with Risk Management and Internal Audit contributing to establishing an enterprise-wide risk management framework
• Monitors and tests new compliance technologies and procedures
• Responsible for the Bank’s CRA program, development and maintenance of the CRA Strategic Plan
